Hi guys! Well, it has been too long, but I'm back. If you follow me on FB, Twitter and/or Instagram then you know of my technological difficulties these past few weeks. But I'm happy to say that those problems are in the past and I'm back with a new recipe!
I thought I'd start back with a quick and easy pizza recipe. So, a little backstory: I spotted this chicken sausage at the grocery store and thought that it would be delicious on...well on something, but I wasn't quite sure what. I figured I'd cross that bridge later. So after a two days I could not think of a way to prepare this sausage. Then it hit me! Pizza! I then thought about some of my favorite summer food, which is Sausage and Peppers. Theeen I decided to have those two ideas hook up, and voila, you have Chicken Sausage and Banana Pepper Pizza!
Its super easy, especially since I use the awesome pizzaria style pizza dough they sell at the supermarket now. I just want to note, that traditional sausage and peppers is sweet or hot italian sausage and green, red, and/or yellow peppers not banana but I thought the jarred banana peppers would give it a good acidic bite. Ok, keep reading for the how to!
Start with store bought pizza dough, or if you make a mean pizza dough you can make one and use that.
Grab your chicken sausage, of this pack I used two links.
When you take your dough out of the fridge, let it sit for about 10 minutes to warm up. It will stretch better that way. Flour your board and both sides of the dough.
Slice dough into two equal pieces.
Lift, pull and stretch the dough with your hands until you get your desired shape and thickness.
Mince two cloves of garlic.
In a medium sauté pan over medium heat add olive oil and then cook the sausage links until cooked through. Remove from pan and set aside.
In the same pan add a bit more olive oil and turn heat down to low. Add minced garlic and cook just until golden, be careful not to burn. Remove the garlic from the pan and place in a small bowl and set aside.
Slice up the sausage into half inch pieces on an angle.
Now back to the dough. Transfer the dough you formed on to a lightly oiled baking sheet. Spread a couple tablespoons of tomato sauce and spread with the back of a spoon.
Add mozzarella cheese.
Now sprinkle half of the minced garlic onto the pizza. Add As many banana peppers and sausage pieces as you like. Finally sprinkle with a pinch of dried oregano.
Place in oven and bake for 15-25 minutes until crust is golden brown and cheese is melted.

Chicken Sausage & Banana Pepper Pizza
1-15 oz package of refrigerated pizza dough
1 cup tomato sauce
2 chicken sausage links, cooked
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
¼ tsp oregano
2 garlic cloves, finely minced
Jarred banana peppers
Flour for dusting
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Preheat a sauté pan with a tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Cook the chicken sausage turning from one side to the other until cooked through. Remove from pan and drain on a plate lined with paper towel. Once cooled, slice the sausage into ½ slices on an angle; set aside. In the same pan add another tablespoon of olive oil, reduce heat to low and add minced garlic. Cook for about a minute until they are golden, turn off and remove from heat (garlic browns fast, so be careful not to burn it, if you burn it just toss and start over). Scoop out garlic and set aside in a small bowl.
Next, flour a wooden board to prevent your dough from sticking. Remove the pizza dough from the package and lightly flour on each side. Divide dough in half with a knife. From this dough you are going to make two pizzas. Grab one ball of dough and form the dough by gently pulling and pushing the dough around with your hands until you form a disc into your desired thickness.
Transfer your formed dough from the board to your oiled baking sheet. Sprinkle a pinch of salt onto the dough. Next, add a couple tablespoons of tomato sauce and spread around the dough with the back of your spoon. Add your shredded mozzarella cheese, sprinkle half of sautéed garlic and arrange your sausage slices and banana peppers as desired. Sprinkle with oregano to taste. Repeat with second piece of dough.
Place in 400 degree oven and cook for 15-25 minutes (ovens vary) until crust is golden brown and cheese is melted. Slice and enjoy!
